Byron's Bridge/Brig o' Balgownie, Aberdeen, Scotland - Lord Byron Aberdeen

The Brig o' Balgownie was built in the late thirteenth century, and was renovated in 1605. It is constructed from granite and sandstone. Further information about the bridge in Old Aberdeen can be found on Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brig_o%27_Balgownie) and on Visit Aberdeen (http://www.visitabdn.com/attractions-and-activities/view/brig-o-balgownie).

Byron's Bridge/Brig o' Balgounie address:

Bridge of Don

Aberdeen

AB23 8JQ

Byron's mention of the Brig o' Balgownie in DON JUAN:

“As 'Auld Lang Syne' brings Scotland, one and all,

Scotch plaids,Scotch snoods, the blue hills, and clear streams,

The Dee, the Don, Balgounie's brig's black wall,

All my boy feelings, all my gentler dreams

Of what I then dreamt, clothed in their own pall,

Like Banquo's offspring; - floating past me seems

My childhood in this childishness of mine:

I care not - 'tis a glimpse of 'Auld Lang Syne.'”
