What are the children's names in Mary Poppins?
The children in Mary Poppins are called Jane and Michael Banks. Both children present a picture of innocence, but they have run through their fair share of nannies. When they sing their song The Perfect Nanny, which is a letter containing their list of desires for their next nanny, they inadvertently summon Mary Poppins.
Jane Banks was played by Karen Dotrice, who was around ten years old at the time. Around the same time, she also appeared in Disney’s The Three Lives of Thomasina and The Gnome-Mobile.
Michael Banks was played by Matthew Garber, who was around eight or nine at the time. He also appeared alongside Dotrice in the Three Lives of Thomasina and the Gnome-Mobile.
Garber passed away in 1977 aged 21 from haemorrhagic necrotising pancreatitis.
In 2004, both Dotrice and Garber were officially named as Disney Legends.
